RESIDENTS in Newton-le-Willows have been without water since yesterday.

The water outage is reported to have been due to a 'technical fault' with United Utilities' water works which has left some households without water.

The drastic change from freezing temperatures to milder conditions is said to have caused leaks and bursts to water pipes.

Water supply has returned to some households, however, some residents are still waiting for supply to return to normal.

Those living in areas with WA12 postcode have been affected by the issue.

A spokesperson for United Utilities said: "We are sorry that some customers in the Newton-le-Willows area experienced disruption to their water supply this weekend.

"The change in temperature – from sub-zero to double figures in some areas over the last couple of days – means that leaks and bursts are beginning to show in customers’ properties and on our network as frozen pipes thaw out.

"Our teams are working really hard to carry out repairs on our pipes as quickly as possible, but some customers may unfortunately have experienced poor pressure or no water."
