THE team at the new Amazon site in Knowsley have marked the opening of the borough’s fulfilment centre by donating to a local food bank.

The charity committee at the new Amazon fulfilment centre donated £12,500 to Knowsley Food Bank as part of the company’s Community Support Programme, a UK-wide scheme.

The local food bank and its nine distribution centres across the borough provides nutritionally balanced emergency food for struggling households.

Tony Carr, general manager at the Amazon site in Knowsley, said: "Supporting the community is something we’re incredibly passionate about and we’re pleased to donate to Knowsley Food Bank.

"This is the first of many donations and support programmes we’re planning for organisations in Merseyside who offer a great deal to the communities we serve."

Antonia Bell, food operations manager at Knowsley Food Bank, added: "On behalf of everyone at Knowsley Food Bank, I’d like to thank Tony and the team at Amazon for this donation.

"Help like this ensures we can continue to provide support for our community and we’re grateful for this gesture from the Amazon team."

The new site in Knowsley opened last month and is the first of its kind in Merseyside.

The 630,000 square foot fulfilment centre has created 700 jobs in a variety of roles including IT, HR and engineers.
