A FESTIVE sight was spotted in Newton-le-Willows on Tuesday night as locals gathered to sing Christmas carols.

The annual event, organised by Newton and Earlestown Community Group, took place at Mesnes Park, with St Helens Concert Band leading the singalong.

Despite sub-zero temperatures, a community came together on a frosty evening to sing Christmas classics and enjoy the merriment.

Refreshments and festive treats, including mince pies, were provided at the event by donations from Costco Haydock and Tesco Earlestown.

Debbie Fackey, a member of Newton and Earlestown Community Group, said: "It was an amazing turnout from the Newton-le-Willows community once again, despite the - 2 degrees, and the frozen brass instruments.

"People turned out in their Winter woollies and festive hats, and really sang their hearts out.

"The singing was led by four youngsters from the crowd, who really made us all smile with their beautiful singing and brilliant enthusiasm.

"We got through 160 mince pies, so thank you to both Costco Haydock and Tesco Earlestown for supporting our community with the donations.

"We really kicked off the festive period thanks to our wonderful community."
