SOME residents were hit by a power cut during England's football World Cup game with Wales yesterday evening, Tuesday.

Properties in Rainhill were affected by the loss of power, from around 5.30pm on November 29.

The fault happened in the village around the Stapleton Road area and surrounding streets.

Scottish Power said the following postcodes were affected:

L354PA, L354PB, L354PF, L354PH, L354PJ, L354PR, L354PS, L354PT, L354PU, L354PX, L354PY, L354PZ, L354QA, L354QD, L354QZ, L354RA, L358NT, L358NZ, L358PF, L358PG, L358PL, L358PQ

It is understood restoration took longer than expected, with some homes cut off from power until the early hours, because of difficulties encountered repairing an underground cable fault.

England beat Wales 3-0 to cement their place in the last 16 of the FIFA World Cup.

Some residents took to social media to voice their frustration at the timing of the power cut.

"Couldn't have timed it worse", one remarked.
