A FESTIVE favourite is returning to Newton-le-Willows next week.

Newton High Street’s Christmas Markets is making a comeback after a two-year break due to the pandemic.

The event, which sees stalls set up throughout the high street, was an annual occasion prior to covid and much-loved by the community.

This year, the markets were able to make a return, with the High Street Hive committee and independent business in Newton, coming together to host the festive day.

Cheryl Roberts, owner of Drinkworthy and member of the High Street Hive committee, will be taking part in the festive markets for the first time, having moved onto the high street March last year.

Cheryl said: "We did the jubilee one and the turnout for that was just bigger than we could’ve even imagined; everybody was ready to celebrate then.

"So, looking at that, we think it’s going to be amazing; the feedback we’ve had just from the things we’ve done means a lot.

All the businesses are back open and thriving and people are ready to celebrate again."

The festive event will see independent businesses set up gifts, drinks, treats, and music for locals to enjoy.

Cheryl added: "They were always well received and sadly they were missed during lockdown.

"All the businesses and community are looking forward and it’s all coming together.

"It’s great for businesses; you feel like you’re not on your own and you just feel like the whole community is coming together and supporting everybody else, bouncing off each other and sharing ideas. It feels really good."

The markets will take place the same day as the high street’s Christmas lights switch on, Sunday December 4.

Festivities will begin at 12pm, with the switch on taking place at 5pm.
