AN AUTHOR and retired chartered surveyor has released his ninth novel.

Andrew Williams is a 70-something author from Rainhill who has recently released his new novel, Playing Dirty; one of a series of pure sci-fi publications written by him.

His sci-fi debut was Arcadia’s Children: Samantha’s Revenge back in 2017 and the author has since been busy writing a further four pure sci-fi novels.

His new novel follows the story of politicians Michael Ventiquatro and Arthur Epistrone’s plan to take over Parliament as their thirst for power leads them to take any actions necessary.

Andrew described writing the book, filled with sex and scandal, as "just brilliant fun."

He said: "Both Ventiquatro, and Arthur Epistrone, Ventiquatro’s loyal subordinate, are nasty pieces of work, but I loved writing about them.

"I had an absolutely brilliant time writing Playing Dirty, because it was the continuation of the sci-fi political plot I’d started with [last year’s novel] Superior.

"I’ve always wanted to write about really nasty, really ruthless politicians who are absolutely hellbent on absolute power."

Clever tricks and exciting twists are seen throughout the novel, including an orchestrated nerve gas attack on Parliament and the introduction to a "beautiful and ruthless" secret weapon, with these scandals influencing Andrew’s title to his ninth novel.

The author added: "I couldn’t resist giving it the code name Operation: Trouser Snake and then that seemed to work perfectly as the subtitle of the book itself.

"One or two people have asked me if Michael Ventiquatro and Arthur Epistrone are based on anyone in particular, but all I’m prepared to say on that is that there have been 17 Prime Ministers in my lifetime, goodness only knows how many MPs and more sex scandals and discredited politicians than you can shake a stick at so I haven’t been short on inspiration."

Andrew insists that despite taking an "unexpected" left turn whilst writing Playing Dirty, his intentions still lie with pure sci-fi.

He said: "Since retiring last year I have plenty of time on my hands so I can’t imagine stopping writing any time soon. I enjoy it too much."
