POLICE have formally identified the 17-year-old boy who died in a crash involving a car and two motorbikes as Harley Lea.

The fatal collision happened on Tuesday, October 4 at the junction of Park Road and Boardmans Lane, Blackbrook at about 12.30am.

Police have confirmed a 17-year-old boy was taken to hospital but died a short time later.

A police spokeswoman confirmed the boy has been formally identified as Harley Lea.

A 19-year-old man and a 24-year-old man from the St Helens area were both arrested on suspicion of Harley's murder and causing serious injury by dangerous driving after the crash.

Both were taken into custody on Tuesday for questioning by detectives.

Merseyside Police added that a 20-year-old man and a 23-year-old man were also seriously injured during the incident.

They have been taken to hospital for treatment for their injuries.

The incident happened near the Lidl supermarket at Blackbrook, opposite St Augustine’s secondary school.

Extensive cordons at the junction remained in place on Tuesday and flowers have been laid at the scene.

There was extensive damage caused to road barriers and street furniture.

Police have remained tight-lipped regarding their investigation but in a statement Detective Chief Inspector John Fitzgerald did say: “The investigation is in the very early stages as we seek to establish what has taken place.

"We are reviewing CCTV and appealing for anyone who was in the area of Boardmans Lane and Park Road in the early hours to contact us.

“Anyone who believes they have captured something significant on their dash cam or mobile phone is also asked to get in touch as they may have information which is vital to the investigation.”
