FLOWERS have been left at the scene of a crash that resulted in the death of a 17-year-old boy.

The collision - involving a car and two motorbikes - happened on Tuesday, October 4 at the junction of Park Road and Boardmans Lane, Blackbrook at about 12.30am.

Police have confirmed a 17-year-old boy was taken to hospital but died a short time later.

In a statement police said they had made arrests on suspicion of the boy’s murder.

A 19-year-old man and a 24-year-old man from the St Helens area have both been arrested on suspicion of murder and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

Both have spent the day in custody where they will be questioned by detectives.

Merseyside Police added that a 20-year-old man and a 23-year-old man were also seriously injured during the incident.

They have been taken to hospital for treatment for their injuries.

The incident happened near the Lidl supermarket at Blackbrook, opposite St Augustine’s secondary school.

Extensive cordons at the junction remained in place today and flowers have been laid at the scene.

There is extensive damage to road barriers and street furniture.

Star readers have expressed shock and sadness at the tragedy.

Police have remained tight-lipped regarding their investigation but in a statement Detective Chief Inspector John Fitzgerald did say: “The investigation is in the very early stages as we seek to establish what has taken place.

"We are reviewing CCTV and appealing for anyone who was in the area of Boardmans Lane and Park Road in the early hours to contact us.

“Anyone who believes they have captured something significant on their dash cam or mobile phone is also asked to get in touch as they may have information which is vital to the investigation.”
