THE proud wife of war veteran and triple amputee Andy Reid who is currently climbing Mount Kilimanjaro says he has the ‘most incredible strength’.

Rainford’s Andy became a triple amputee after an explosion on the frontline and has used his story to inspire others, setting up the Standing Tall Foundation and leading him to be given an MBE.

He’s taken on many challenges since his life altering injuries, but his latest sees him scaling Mount Kilimanjaro with a team of specialists to help raise money for The Standing Tall Foundation.

The strain this puts on regular bodied people is immense but for dad-of-two Andy it will be more so.

His proud wife Claire said: “I spoke to Andy via sat phone this morning and luckily he was able to talk to the children too.

St Helens Star:

“It was the first time we have spoken to him since he started the trek. He’s doing really well.

“It’s tough, he’s been walking for up to 12hrs a day and he is exhausted but pushing on and in good spirits.

“He has been training hard for months for the challenge going to Bannatynes gym and using Thin Air Therapy to help him be more oxygen efficient.

“Mentally it will be just as tough for him but he is focused and has a fantastic team around him.

St Helens Star:

“We are so proud of him, he has the most incredible strength and drive to achieve anything he puts his mind to.

“He’s such a role model for our children and we support him all the way.”
