A MAN sadly died on the railway tracks, causing disruption to train services yesterday evening, Monday.
Scheduled trains from St Helens stations to Manchester experienced cancellations and long delays as a result of the incident.
British Transport Police confirmed that officers attended the railway close to Patricroft station in Greater Manchester.
Paramedics also rushed to the scene, however it was confirmed that a casualty had died.
A force spokesman said: “British Transport Police were called to the line near Patricroft station at 5.25pm yesterday, Monday, October 3, following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
“Paramedics also attended, however sadly a man was pronounced dead at the scene.
“This incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
Yesterday evening, a spokesman for train operator Northern said: “Due to emergency services dealing with an incident between Manchester Oxford Road and Liverpool Lime Street, all lines are blocked.
“Train services running to and from these stations will be cancelled, delayed by up to 30 minutes or diverted.”
