POLICE have issued an appeal after burglars smashed into a town centre cafe and made off with money, an iPad and a laptop.

Momo's cafe was broken into on Sunday night into Monday with offenders having smashed their way in.

Damage was caused to the premises, with a window having been put through.

The owners say that the burglars stole cash amounting to a few hundred pounds from the premises, an iPad with a talking menu and a laptop.

A Merseyside Police spokesman said: "We can confirm that officers are investigating following a business burglary in St Helens reported on Monday morning, October 3.

"At around 9.10am, we were called to Momo’s café on Westfield Street to reports that entry had been gained and money and electrical equipment stolen, including a laptop and iPad.

"Forensic and CCTV inquiries are ongoing. The offence is believed to have happened between 7pm on Sunday, October) and 9am on Monday morning.

"If you saw or heard anything or have any information, including CCTV or doorbell footage, please contact us @MerPolCC or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 with reference 22000729964."

The cafe had to cancel its Monday Club meeting for children with disabilities and also a Men Helping Men mental health support group event which was also due to take place due to the break-in.

Claire Rigby, co-owner of Momo's alongside Colin Clemmitt, said: "Monday Club is cancelled so this will impact the kids who come every single week.

"It’s for kids that have disabilities and sensory issues, so upsetting their routine will have an impact on their whole week as Monday Club is set in stone.

"And Men helping Men, a mental health peer-to-peer support group, will be cancelled too, it’s knocked my business partner sick with what has happened."

Momo's is aiming to reopen as normal on Tuesday
