A WEEKLY walk to help parents and carers with their mental health has been launched in Newton-le-Willows.

Home-Start St Helens and St Helens Wellbeing Service have launched Walk and Talk Together to encourage parents and guardians of infants, toddlers, and pre-schoolers to exercise and open up about their mental wellbeing.

The weekly walk will start from Newton-le-Willows Children’s Centre on Patterson Street where snacks and a play area will be available to children.

A local resident who attended the first session said: "Being a parent can be such a lonely experience which has had an impact on my mental health and wellbeing.

"Having the opportunity to get out, be active, chat to other parents and have fun with my child on the walks will boost my confidence, reduce my anxiety and help me to believe in myself."

Annmarie Houghton, manager at Home-Start St Helens, added: "Home-Start St Helens is a family support charity, and we can really see the impact the past few years and the current cost of living crisis is having on families emotional health and wellbeing."

The walk is also an opportunity to form friendships to improve your emotional wellbeing whilst becoming more active.

The sessions take place every Thursday 9:45-11:30am, excluding school holidays.
