ST HELENS fireworks show is returning this November after a two-year break, with Saints stadium hosting the event.

The annual display is returning for the first time since the pandemic, with residents promised a spectacular show with a new look.

New location

The show has also had a new location as it moves from its usual Sherdley Park spot to the Totally Wicked Stadium.

The change of venue follows St Helens Borough Council teaming up with Saints to present 'From the Ground Comes Light - Fire and Light Spectacular’, which will aim to offer an even better experience ahead of Saints celebrating 150 years.

The new show will see local talent perform before spectators enjoy a laser-lights and pyrotechnics display.

Councillor Anthony Burns, St Helens Borough Council’s cabinet member for wellbeing, culture and heritage, said: “We’re incredibly proud to have a world-class sporting team here in St Helens in the form of Saints and as a council we are always keen to look at opportunities to work with the Club.

“Moving the fireworks display to the Totally Wicked Stadium – one of the best purpose build rugby league stadiums in the world – makes perfect sense as its already geared up to hold such an event, like we saw with the recent Jacqui Abbott and Paul Heaton concert which was a special moment for the town. It’s the perfect way to kick off Saints’ 150th celebrations and our year as the City Region Borough of Culture.

“We know times are hard for everyone right now, and that’s why we’ve made this event as affordable as possible and significantly cheaper than other similar scale events around the area – and we’re determined to put on a spectacular evening.”

Saints kit unveiling

As well as a new fireworks display, residents of St Helens will also have the opportunity to see Saints’ 2023 kit for the club’s 150th anniversary season.

Official Saints merchandise will also be available to purchase at the stadium.

Mike Rush, chief executive of Saints, said: “We are delighted to partner with the council to help bring this exciting event to the Totally Wicked Stadium. We are also looking forward to revealing our 2023 home and away shirts in advance of what will be the Club’s 150th year.”

The new location will be a ticketed event due to fewer spaces available as a large area of the stadium will be used for the bonfire night show.

Capacity will be limited to 5,000 in the South Stand of the stadium, with family deals available and free parking on council-run car parks.

How to get tickets and how much will it cost
