TODAY is Better Breakfast Day – where people are encouraged to eat the most important meal of the day.

With current lifestyles meaning mornings are often spent rushing around and getting ready for school or work, breakfast can be low on the list of priorities with some people opting to miss it altogether.

But taking the time to eat breakfast can ensure that you have the right energy levels to see you through the morning and will mean you won’t need to pick up unhealthy snacks before lunch.

Better Breakfast Day is celebrated on September 26 each year and it was created to remind people how important breakfast is and encourage them to eat a healthy meal that provides the body with vital nutrients.

Porridge is a popular choice for breakfast as it’s warm and comforting and slowly releases energy throughout the morning.

Why not add a pinch of cinnamon or some fruit to your bowl and make it even more appetising?

Low fat yoghurt, fruit and muesli is a quick option that can be adapted to suit different tastes and dietary requirements and baked beans, which are low in fat but high in protein and fibre, make a hot alternative served with brown bread or granary toast.

How about some scrambled eggs and bacon or some mashed avocado on toast with a chilli salsa on top?

There are lots of tasty breakfast treats that you can enjoy before dashing out the door today.

If you’ve got time to eat out this morning, why not try St Helens’ Best for Breakfast 2022?
