SCHOOL children who sent pictures and a letter to the Queen to celebrate her Jubilee were in tears after receiving a message back from her dated days before her death.

Year Two pupils from Sutton Manor Primary School joined the nation in celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee back in June having a street party picnic and doing artwork depicting portraits of Her Majesty.

These were sent with a letter explaining how they celebrated along with their well wishes to The Queen and this week they received a response, dated September 5 from Balmoral, just three days before she died.

The students are now in Year Three, but their former teacher Hannah Lewis went to their new class to show them the letter and explain to them that theirs must have been ne of the last issued by the Queen.

Hannah, said: “These children celebrated the Jubilee aged six and seven and had a good understanding about the Queen, her age and the importance of the event.

“They, like the rest of us, were so sad when they heard of her passing, so to get this message from her Lady-in-waiting, dictated to by the Queen from Balmoral just days before she died was quite emotional.

“The children were happy but also in tears knowing their work was some of the last the Queen got to appreciate before she died.

“It shows in the letter that it wasn’t just a generic response either, she mentioned aspects of our letter including the celebrations we held, which make it all the more special.

“She will be sorely missed and this letter will be cherished by the school.”
