THERE’S no time to sit back and relax for St Helens’ latest Best of 2022 award winner.

The owner of Anatolia Grill – winner of Best Restaurant 2022 – is determined not to rest his laurels and keep tight hold of the town’s number one dining spot, striving for continued success and pushing forward.

Since we launched our Best of 2022 competition in April, each week we’ve focused on different categories to find the best that St Helens has to offer with 20 awards for hair, nails, beauty, fitness, gym, children and independent shop being given out as well as fish and chips, pies, pubs, beer garden, café, breakfast, afternoon tea, roast dinners, pizza, burger, curry and dessert already decided.

Next up we were searching for the town’s best restaurant and Anatolia Grill topped the table beating off some tough competition from other local restaurants.

Ali Yurdakurban opened the Duke Street venue in 2016 after running St Helens Kebab House and Geno’s Kebab and Pizzeria, which he stills owns.

The 49-year-old runs the Turkish restaurant with manager Jemma Williams and his son is one of the chefs working in the kitchen.

Customers say the restaurant “always serves delicious food, huge portions and has excellent service”.

One review on their Facebook page said: “Nothing is too much trouble and the staff make sure you have everything you need.
“The food is brilliant.”

Ali said: “It feels amazing to be crowned the winner of Best Restaurant 2022 as it shows we are doing something right for our customers.

“We can’t believe the amount of support we have received and we are very grateful.

“We certainly won’t be resting on our laurels and will be pushing to be even better so that we stay number one in St Helens.”

Anatolia Grill’s most popular dish is a selection of different meats cooked on a charcoal grill but customers also like the iskender adana, which is sliced doner kebab meat topped with a homemade tomato sauce and butter.

Ali said: “Our restaurant is a family-run business which allows us to work in harmony together.

“I think it’s the reason we’ve been chosen as the number one restaurant in St Helens.

“I want to say a huge thank you to each and every person who voted for us.”

The restaurant is open between 5pm and 11pm Monday to Saturday and from 2pm until 11pm on Sundays.
