PEOPLE are invited to gather in St Helens on Sunday as the Mayor of St Helens formally proclaims the beginning of King Charles III's reign.
Councillor Sue Murphy, will read the Proclamation of the new Sovereign at 2pm on Sunday from the St Helens Town Hall steps.
In a statement St Helens Council said people “are invited to observe” the ceremony.
Similar events are taking place at towns and borough's around the country.
Meanwhile, a book of condolence created following the death of Queen Elizabeth II will be available for people to sign in the town hall between 10am and 3pm on Sunday.
Floral tributes are being laid around the Queen Victoria Statue in Victoria Square, St Helens.
St Helens Borough Council Leader, Councillor David Baines, said: “The thoughts and prayers of everyone in St Helens Borough are with the Royal Family at this tragic time for them, and for us all.
“Throughout her entire life Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth provided leadership which defined post-war Britain.
“Through her outstanding and selfless public service she gave us stability and strength, and was our one constant during an age which saw significant change in almost every other part of our lives.
“In the coming days and weeks, we will mourn, and we will reflect on her remarkable life with awe and gratitude.”
