WE'VE always known this is God's own country... but now a little bit of Heaven could be heading your way.

HEAVEN', a huge mobile public artwork by Merseyside-based artist, Leo Fitzmaurice, is being held at 52 sites across the borough on 52 consecutive days.

It's been devised as part of the community programme being run in tandem with the Channel 4 Big Art Project. Each of the 52 sites being visited by Heaven' were nominated by local people as part of the Big Art's Little Art project.

Leo Fitzmaurice says: "The sign will stop at each site for the day to allow for interaction with the community and even photo opportunities. In some places this word HEAVEN will chime with its surroundings, whilst in others it will act as a stark reminder of what is missing or yet to be achieved. The desire is to focus attention on what is already there and also to pose the question about the future possibilities of the given locations."

Councillor Brian Spencer, leader of St Helens Council, said: "There has been a lot of community interest in this exciting project which is really capturing people's imagination."

Paul Kelly, Big Art community engagement co-ordinator for Helena Housing, added: "The Big Art project has enabled Helena Housing to develop a range of innovative artist-led projects across the borough exploring how art can impact on a sense of place. The Heaven project will bring real focus to a wide range of sites across St Helens which people feel strongly about."

An exhibition of photographs from all 52 sites will take place at the Godfrey Pilkington Gallery in St Helens in June.
