SERVING “the perfect sized coffee” with the “friendliest staff”, it’s no surprise that Two Brothers Coffee has scooped our Best Café 2022 award.

The popular brand, which was born five years ago, aims to deliver the perfect brew using ethically sourced coffee and they’ve mastered the process.

The business was launched in 2017 in Altrincham before opening a second branch in Warrington Market two years ago and then two St Helens venues – one inside St Helens Book Stop and one on Ormskirk Street – last year.

Brothers Steve and Dave Jones, originally from Haydock, decided to follow their passion and launch a specialist coffee shop alongside their electrical engineering jobs.

Their premium coffee goes through an intricate sampling process and is roasted at their Warrington store.

Since we launched our Best of 2022 competition in April, each week, we’ve focused on different categories to find the best that St Helens has to offer with 16 awards for hair, nails, beauty, fitness, children and independent shop being given out as well as fish and chips, pies, pubs, beer garden, breakfast, afternoon tea, roast dinners, pizza and burger already decided.

Voting is taking place over weekend in the next round of the competition with the award for Best Gym 2022 up for grabs, and the closing date is midnight on Monday, August 122.

Next up we were searching for the town’s best cafe and Two Brothers Coffee took top spot.

They will be celebrating the town’s independent coffee shops’ first birthdays later this month having had a successful 12 months serving hungry and thirsty customers.

Sean Lyall, coffee expert at Two Brothers, said: “I’ve worked in two coffee shops in St Helens and the people are really friendly and genuine.

“We offer an independent coffee shop that specialises in ethically sourced coffee.

“We focus on the quality of the coffee, which is roasted at our in-house roastery in Warrington, and we use the best beans, giving staff training to get the best out of the coffee.”

St Helens manager Emma Campbell said: “Our coffee is imported by us from farms all around the world.

“All our beans are responsibly sourced and we pay above fair-trade prices to ensure that they are ethically sourced and environmentally friendly.

“We also go out of our way to work closely with the farms to help to give back and better their communities, meaning all of our customers can enjoy the best cup of coffee in St Helens while knowing that they have helped to make a difference.”

As a coffee shop, Two Brothers mainly focuses on coffee but their cakes are popular with customers especially the baked Basque cheesecake, which features a caramelised topping.

Sean said: “It’s fantastic to win this award.

“It’s great recognition for our hard work and shows how much our regular customer base is growing.”

Emma added: “We would just like to say a massive thank you to everyone who voted for us in this competition.

“There are some wonderful cafes and lovely coffee shops located around St Helens, and to be voted the best is completely surreal.

“From our coffee to our products to the experience that we give to our customers, we go above and beyond to ensure that everything we do is high quality and the best that it can be.

“Being a small independent business can be really tough and comes with its challenges, so winning something like this just means everything to us and to the business.

“Thank you to our regular customers, returning customers, trying us for the first-time customers - we appreciate every single person who has walked through our doors, and thank you for voting us Best Cafe in St Helens!”

Two Brothers on Ormskirk Street is open seven days a week and the branch inside The Book Stop is open Monday to Saturday.
