A MAN has suffered a multiple stab wounds after violence erupted at a pub.

The alarming attack happened at The Vine Tavern Pub on Elephant Lane tonight (Saturday, August 6).

Officers were called to reports of a man having been stabbed at about 8.55pm.

When police arrived the man was being treated by paramedics for stab wounds to his arms, chest and head.

In a statement police told the Star it is believed that two offenders, one armed with a knife, were involved in the attack.

The victim has been taken to hospital for treatment for his injuries which are  believed to be serious, but not life threatening.

Police cordoned off a 15-metre stretch of South Street, which is off Elephant Lane.

Officers and police vans were also stationed on the road as investigations took place at the scene.

Detective Inspector Leanne Toole said: “The investigation is in its early stages and officers will be carrying out extensive inquiries in a bid to identify the offenders. 

“I would appeal to anyone who was in the Vine Tavern, or who may have information which could help us with our inquiries to please contact us.
 
“I would also ask people who were in the area to check dashcam or CCTV footage just in case they may have captured something which may be vital to the case.”

Crime Scene investigators are carrying out forensic examinations at the scene and officers are making house-to-house inquiries.

They will also be examining CCTV footage in a bid to identify the offenders. High visibility patrols will also be in the area to reassure the local community
