MOBILE company O2 has given an update on its works on a faulty masgt in St Helens which has affected customers' signals.

The problem with a phone mast has seen residents in St Helens hit with problems accessing a signal on their mobiles over recent months.

O2 said in June it is aware of an issue "impacting a mast serving the St Helens area".

Residents in the town expressed frustration over being unable to get a signal on their phones.

It is understood the town centre is an area which has been experiencing problems.

However, although nearby masts are providing service to the area, O2 said users were losing signal when volumes of traffic were high.

O2 sent a message to customers that it was "carrying out essential work in WA10 1QU" on August 4.

An O2 spokeswoman said thi has now been completed.

She said: "Work was completed yesterday to upgrade the network and further improve capacity at one of our masts serving St Helens.

"We’ll be delivering further enhancements in the area in future, too."
