WELSH wingman Regan Grace has expressed his devastation at seeing his season and with it his time at Saints prematurely ended with a ruptured Achilles.

Grace, who had already announced that he was leaving rugby league for French union outfit Racing 92, will undergo surgery in the coming days.

The injury will deny Grace the chance of going out on a high after a glorious run in the Saints first team since making his debut on Good Friday 2017.

And what makes it even more frustrating is that it came from such an innocuous passage in the final play of the game as the hooter was sounding.

Taking to social media, Grace tweeted: “The highs and lows of sport.

“I’m truly devastated that my season has come to an immediate end at Saints after rupturing my Achilles on Sunday.

“I’m gutted I won’t be able to play my part for the team for the rest of the season.

“I would just like to thank the fans that stuck by me this year through thick and thin.

“It’s been a roller coaster of emotions these last few days, but I know this is all part of the journey and I will grow from this.

“I’m so grateful for the people I have around me and the continued guidance from Saints.

“Now to work even harder to reach my goals.”

Grace is the second Saints player this year to suffer a ruptured Achilles, following on from Lewis Dodd’s season-ender on Good Friday.

Saints will continue to look after Grace, who is contracted to the club until the end of the year, but the injury will present him with challenges as he prepares to get to grips with a code-switch.

But the 25-year-old has vowed to work even harder to achieve his goals.
