THREE people have been taken to hospital following reports of a hit-and-run collision in St Helens on Friday night.

What police have said

Police say they were called at 9.30pm to reports a woman had been found lying in North Road.

Officers spoke to witnesses at the scene and it is believed that prior to the incident a fight had broken out involving a group of people.

Hit-and-run collision

During the disturbance, a Ford Fiesta is reported to have been in collision with a number of people.

The car is then believed to have left the scene and was found abandoned a short distance away.

Three in hospital

A woman in her 30s and a man in his 40s were both taken to hospital with head injuries and a woman in her 40s was taken to hospital with back and facial injuries.

None of the injuries are believed to be life-threatening.

Three arrests

A 20-year-old woman, a 38-year-old woman and a 46-year-old man have all been arrested on suspicion of affray.

An investigation into the incident is underway and enquiries remain ongoing.

Cordons were in police on North Road last night, where residents described their shock at the incident.

Another cordon was in place nearby Crab Street.

Police say their investigation remains at an early stage.

Detective Inspector Graeme Osborne said: “Our enquiries are at the early stages as we seek to establish what took place last night.

"We are carrying out house-to-house, CCTV and witness enquiries and would urge anyone who could assist with our investigation contact us.”
