A 21-YEAR-OLD man has tragically died while on holiday in Cyprus.

Ben Woods, from Lowton, is believed to have drowned after an accident on a family holiday yesterday (Tuesday, July 5).

Leigh East Rugby League Club, where Ben has played since he was a young boy, announced the news of his untimely passing this morning.

The club chairman, Dave Coyle, described the 21-year-old as a "really good rugby player who was the life and soul of the party".

Stating that "nobody had a bad word to say about him", Dave noted that the tributes that have poured in for Ben are a testament to his character and popularity.

Announcing the news today (Wednesday, July 6), Leigh East's post reads: "It is with the greatest sadness we have to announce the passing of Ben Woods, one of our young Open Age players, after an accident while on holiday with his family.

"Ben had played at Leigh East from a very young age and had progressed through the age groups to become a valuable member of our club.

"Ben was always there with a cheeky smile and will be sorely missed.

"Our thoughts and condolences go out to Mick, Mel and Josh, his family and friends at this saddest of times.

"RIP young man you will never be forgotten."
