NEWTON Community Centre is hosting its first dog show.

The centre in Newton-le-Willows will host the competition in its community garden to raise money for the centre.

Lisa Hulme, manager of Newton Community Centre, said: "We usually do something that appeals to a certain age group, but we wanted to do something that might bring different people to the centre, and pet owners have potentially not been to the centre before.

"It’s a brand-new fundraising way for us that we thought outside the box for, and hopefully it will attract people who’ve never been to the centre.

"In a previous life, I used to work for the RSPCA and we did lots of dog shows so I’m used to organising them, but I think it’s exciting for us because it’s a first here and to also get people into the community garden."

Weather-permitting, the show will be held outdoors, with local businesses planning to sell pet-related products throughout the event.

The dog show will take place on Saturday September 10 between 12-3pm.

Several categories will be in the show, with prizes available for the winning pets.

Attendance is free, however, owners must pay for each competition they enter their dog.

Official categories and prices have yet to be announced.

The self-funded centre is located on Park Road South.
