A MUM-OF-TWO from St Helens is one of three women who just broke a Guinness World Record by doing the 3 peaks challenge while cycling 460 miles in between in just 62 hours and 5 minutes.

Louise Johnson from Eccleston, 50 was joined by Hannah Fawcett, 41 from Allerton and Janet Fairclough, 60 from Bickerstaffe to take on the record breaking attempt in under 67 hours.

St Helens Star:

They set off at 4am on Sunday, June 26 4 at Snowdon, hiked up Snowdon then cycled 204 miles to Saithwaite, had a four hour nap then hiked up Scarfell Pike then cycled another 200 miles to Crianlarich where they had another four hour sleep before cycling to Ben Nevis which they hiked up and then back down completing the challenge at 6.08pm on Tuesday, June 28.

That’s more than five hour and 24 minutes off the previous record.

Louise and Janet, who know each other from cycling for Liverpool Phoenix Cycling Club, say they couldn’t be happier with the result.

Louise, who works in the NHS, said: “It was Janet’s idea firstly, because her friend came to her and said this is right up your street so she asked around and eventually me and Hannah got involved in it.”

Janet added: “I love a challenge and we had this idea in February and by the end of the month we had a plan to get s motorhome to use as a base and figured out who would help us as well.

“It was absolutely amazing, very tiring and I got an injury where I basically had to walk Ben Nevis sideway, but we did it and broke the world record.”

Louise added: “We are all still knackered but we feel great and very proud of ourselves for doing it. We have had so much support from people along the way as well which has made such a big difference in raising our spirits.

“We got hit with weather warning after weather warning, but we kept on and did it.”
