PLANS have been drawn up to convert a former hairdressers and the floor above into one-bed apartments.

Proposals for the former premsies of Wilf's Hairdressers at 17 Spray Street, St Helens have been sent into the council.

Applicants Apco Properties seek to convert the vacant ground floor unit into a one-bed apartment.

Meanwhile, the application also seeks to convert an existing two-bed apartment on the first floor into a one-bed apartment. 

Plans state "the maintenance and upkeep of buildings will be the responsibility of the applicant".

They concluded: "The proposal will provide a high-level accommodation which is currently needed during an ongoing housing crisis.

"The property is also located in an established residential area and therefore justifies the use of the existing building".

The application is on public consultation until Friday, July 15, with a determination deadline set for August 15.

Wilf's Hairdressers closed its doors in 2020, with the business, which originated in 1927, having moved into the Spray Street premises in 1986.
