A MAN who put a pensioner in intensive care with life changing injuries following a one punch attack outside a pub has been jailed.

Josh Hoskison, aged 25 of Redruth Avenue, Laffak was sentenced to 20 months in prison at Liverpool Crown Court yesterday, Wednesday, June 29.

In the early hours of the morning on Wednesday, September 1 the victim, Denis Cunliffe, 69, was on Baldwin Street at around 1.30am when he was  assaulted by Hoskison causing him to fall to the floor and bang his head.

He was taken to Whiston Hospital with a fractured skull and suffered life-changing injuries, later being transferred to St Helens Hospital and spent two months recovering before being discharged home.

Hoskison was later arrested and charged on Sunday, April 17.

Detective Inspector Lisa Milligan said: “This was an unprovoked one punch attack that could have resulted in fatal injuries.

“We hope Hoskison’s sentencing gets the message out there that a split-second decision can destroy lives and that ultimately even a single punch can cause life-changing injuries or even kill.
