Update after 'drug driving' arrest after boy hit on Bridge Street

A boy was hit by a red Ford Fiesta on Bridge Street in St Helens town centre on Tuesday afternoon, at around 3.15pm.

The child ran on to a bus after being hit and had suffered head and wrist injuries.

He was taken to hospital.

Police arrested a 19-year-old man on suspicion of drug driving in connection with the incident.

A Merseyside Police spokeswoman said earlier this week: "We have arrested a man after a collision in St Helens yesterday afternoon (Tuesday, June 21).

"At around 3.15pm officers were called to a report of a collision involving a 12-year-old boy and a red Fiesta.

"The boy who ran on to a bus after the collision sustained injuries to his head and wrist.

"He was then taken to hospital after the bus stopped in the area."

She added: "The driver of the red Fiesta remained at the scene.

"A 19-year-old man from St Helens was arrested on suspicion of drug driving.

"He was taken to a police station in Merseyside and has since been released under investigation."

Police have since confirmed the suspect had been released as inquiries continue.

"The 19-year-old man has been released under investigation," the spokeswoman said.
