A FAMILY have described their terrifying ordeal after masked burglars broke into their home and pointed a machete at their 12-year-old daughter.

The Star reported after four offenders broke into a property on Cumberland Crescent in Haydock in the early hours of Wednesday, June 15.

They stole the two bikes from inside and then left.

A police investigation is underway and one of the stolen bikes has been recovered.

The victims have spoken of the frightening experience, which included a machete being pointed at the girl.

“It happened at 3am, they came straight through the window,” said the mum, who was at home with her partner and daughter.

“We were asleep in bed and we woke up to a banging, we realized there was somebody in the house.

“They made their way upstairs, they were armed, three with a machete and one with a hammer.”

She said one of them pointed a machete at her daughter during the terrifying ordeal.

“The men ran downstairs and we confronted them which was horrendous as they were waving these machetes around and left the property with two of the bikes. One of the bikes has been recovered, the other we still don’t have.”

She added: “It was obviously planned, we don’t know if they were watching us. My daughter doesn’t want to stay here and move.

“She doesn’t want to come in the house, she comes in terrified.”

“We don’t want to scare people but people need to be aware, these people will go to the extremes for what they want. They have ruined our lives for the sake of a couple of bikes.”
