PRESCOT Primary School has received an overall 'Good' judgement following its latest visit by Ofsted after it was found to have made progress.

The school’s previous inspection had resulted in a “requires improvement” judgement.

The school was assessed against the quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, leadership and management and early years provision – all of which were judged to be 'Good' with the exception of early years provision which was judged as 'Outstanding'.

Prescot Primary School has worked in partnership with Knowsley Council’s Education Improvement Team.

Key findings from the inspection included that pupils, staff, parents and carers value the welcoming family feel at Prescot Primary School.

Also, pupils were said to feel safe and value the highly supportive environment and safeguarding arrangements at the school were effective.

Children in early years were said to enjoy an excellent start to their school life due the strong curriculum that is expertly delivered by staff.

Children in early years achieve extremely well and are exceptionally well prepared for their next steps in education.

Throughout school, it was said every pupil, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), is expected to achieve highly and that staff are successful at making this happen.

It was added staff identify the additional needs of pupils with SEND with precision and speed. Pupils with SEND are given the high-quality support they need to access the curriculum and thrive.

Also, school leaders promote pupils’ personal development well and a range of activities are available including archery, keyboard and photography clubs.

They have also ensured that the curriculum is well designed and the curriculum is broad, interesting and ambitious.

It was said pupils get off to an excellent start with learning to read and teachers deliver the phonics programme well.

Also, pupils were said to behave well and that they attend school regularly.

An area for improvement that was recommended by the inspection team was around a review of the curriculum to ensure essential knowledge in some subjects is clearer.

Cllr Margaret Harvey, cabinet member for children’s services, said “I’m delighted with the feedback from the Inspectors about Prescot Primary School and the outcome they have received. It really is truly deserved.

“A key priority for us to ensure that our children and young people receive the very best start in life so I was particularly pleased to note the inspector’s comment that pupils who move from early years into reception are exceptionally well prepared.

“This report is a credit to everyone involved at the school – pupils, their families, the head teacher, teaching staff, Governors and the wider community.

“The overall outcome of 'Good' is a fantastic achievement for the school. Well done to everyone involved.”
