SIGNIFICANT disruptions to train journeys are expected ahead of railway strikes taking place this week.

Passengers are advised to avoid any journeys as a temporary timetable will mean fewer trains will be going ahead of Britain’s biggest rail strike in 30 years.

The RMT union announced a strike, with Network Rail staff set to walk out due to talks of pay cuts.

Passengers travelling through Newton-le-Willows via Northern Railway will also be affected by the change in timetable.

The Liverpool to Manchester railway line appears to be running during the week, however, on a reduced timetable.

Along with delays, passengers are also told to expect short notice cancellations and to double check any planned journeys.

The strikes will take place on Tuesday June 21, Thursday June 23, and Saturday June 25, however, the public are also told to expect disruptions on Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday as well.

Frederick Glass, from Frodsham, was travelling back home from Newcastle, with a change at Newton station.

He feared that a successful strike will cause further issues.

He said: “If they do win, I see chaos happening. Everybody will want a pay rise. You’re talking teachers, police, fire, everyone.

“We were supposed to travel on Wednesday but now we’re travelling today because of lack of trains.

“I feel sorry for people who rely on trains to get to work.”
