AN elderly woman's bag was snatched as she shopped in a Willowbrook Hospice charity store.
Police say the victim was in the Willowbrook Hospice shop in St Mary’s Arcade at about 3.15pm on Wednesday, May 18 when it was stolen.
Detectives investigating the theft in St Helens have issued images of a man they believe may have information that could assist their enquiries.
The bag, which contained the woman's mobile phone and other personal items, had been hooked over her shopping trolley.
Merseyside Police is appealing for help to identify the man pictured, who may be able to assist the investigation.
Inspector Leach said: “The victim in this case has been left extremely upset by what happened.
“It is unimaginably cruel to think that anyone could target a vulnerable elderly woman in this way.
"The fact that this happened in a charity shop only makes the thief’s actions more abhorrent.
“We have now issued stills of a man we believe could have information that may prove vital to our enquiries.
“If you recognise this man, or witnessed any part of the incident, then do let us know as any information you hold could prove vital in our efforts to bring those responsible to justice.”
