A MAN celebrated his centenary year with 100 special guests as part of St Helens' Jubilee events at the Town Hall.
Taking place on Wednesday, June 1, Gerald Ander's 100th birthday was organised to tie in with the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.
Gerald, who lives on Prescot Road, was born in St Helens in 1922 and served in the Royal Artillery during World War 2.
Serving Queen Elizabeth II during the battle with the Axis powers, Gerald, his family, and friends, wanted to use the occassion to celebrate both his life and the Queen's 70th anniversary of her accession to the throne.
Arriving at the Town Hall in style, the 100-year-old was driven to the ceremony in an antiquated white car which was provided free of charge by Century Wedding Cars.
As well as Gerald's family and friends, other veterans were invited to the Town Hall to share their medals, salutes, and stories with one another.
Other special guests included the Mayor of St Helens and the High Sherriff of Merseyside, who joined in with the celebrations to honour the veteran's 100 years.
With guests treated with refreshments and afternoon tea, there was also the opportunity for keen dancer Gerald to throw out a few dance moves to the dance hall classics he used to love.
Describing Gerald, friends of the veteran say that he is "loved by everyone he comes in contact with, and is a legend throughout St Helens and beyond".
