HARD-WORKING crochet groups had some of their Jubilee creations vandalised over the weekend.

Designed to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee, members of Garswood's 'Knit and Natter' group, Haydock's 'UnTangled St Helens', Rainhill's Women's Institute, as well as other members of the community worked hard to get their creations up over the bank holiday weekend.

Although many of the colourful creations were celebrated by members of the community, a handful of them were vandalised after they were placed on post box toppers in Haydock and Prescot.

UnTangled St Helens' creations were said to be damaged just hours after they were placed on post boxes on Clipsey Lane and Vista Road in Haydock.

One of the group's members, Marion Beardall said: "[It's] such a shame when we put so much work into them but we are not deterred.

"[We have the] World Cup and poppy day to work on [later in the year], as well as flowers for local care homes [and] forget me nots for a local dementia club party."

Similarly, a combined effort by friends Patricia Meakin and Michelle Ferns was also vandalised in Prescot.

After spending hours creating their Platinum Jubilee creation, it was found damaged the day after it was placed on a Columbia Road post box and had to be taken down.

Patricia, 75, said: "As far as I know, ours was the only post box topper in Prescot so it's really upsetting that someone damaged it just hours after we placed it up.

"I saw all the nice comments about the crochets on Facebook and we planned to bring it to a Jubilee party over the weekend, but we had to take it down."
