IN 1964 when Ann Sidney won Miss World she undertook five world tours and travelled to Asia with entertainer Bob Hope.
But she also found time to drop in at Haydock Park racecourse.
Alas the course was frozen and the races were cancelled so she was left to simply examine the course and take a close look at the horses.
Sidney was the UK's second winner of the Miss World pageant - with the 1964 show watched by a remarkable 27.2 million viewers.
She went on to have a career in acting and singing, appearing in popular TV shows Are You Being Served? and The Avengers and a number of films.
Photographer Eddie Whitham captured Miss World's Haydock walkabout with imagery that ooze the swinging sixties.
We will have more pictures on Saturday of Lester Piggott at Haydock Park.
