A WOMAN who was grabbed from behind around her neck while jogging at Sherdley Park has described her terrifying ordeal.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses after the assault at Sherdley Park, on Friday, May 20.

The victim was running down The Score, near the former Pets' Corner, at around 1.45pm when a man grabbed her from behind and tried to pull her into nearby woodland.

She resisted and said when he noticed that another woman walking nearby, he released her and demanded money.

She told him she had no money and he walked off towards the golf club.

She described her attacker as around 18 to 20 years old with a "slim build, scruffy-looking, mousey brown short hair".

He had a Birmingham, or similar, accent and was about 5ft 10in in height, and was wearing a grey and black North Face tracksuit.

The 35-year-old victim said: "I was on a run on my dinner around Sherdely Park.

"On my second lap around, as I was running down The Score near Pets' Corner on the bottom of the hill, I noticed a lad walking in the opposite direction, dragging his feet walking slowly as if he has nowhere to be.

"I remember thinking his mood seemed down, with almost a troubled look on his face.

"Anyway on my third and final lap, I saw the same lad sat on the low railings to my right in the same area where I had seen him walking near Pets' Corner at the bottom of the hill.

"As I passed him and got few steps further, I felt his right arm swoop me from behind around my neck strangling me."

She added: "I remember thinking 'this is how I die and I'm not going to see my kids again'.

"I had both hands on his arm trying to loosen his grip on my neck as well as using my full body force trying not to fully go in the bushes, I managed to scream 'help' the loudest I could, I felt his grip get tight, still trying to fight him and loosen his grip, as I thought if I didn't try at the very least that I would be dead.

"I screamed help again. I was going light-headed as well as adrenaline running through me.

"I can't even be 100 per cent if went on the ground or half went towards the ground and got kicked as it seems like flashes of memories."

The woman said: "My scream was heard by a lady walking her dogs in the woods that came out, it was only at this point he let go and started saying 'I want money' repeatedly.

"I said I've not got anything but he kept repeating himself. I said to take something else, as he was still in grabbing distance of me, I even offered him my earbuds which he knocked out which are worth £200 but he just kept saying 'I want money'.

"He could have easily taken my earbuds, Fitbit watch or phone which were all on show but he wasn't a bit interested in any of that.

"As I got a bit of distance I said 'You didn't have to do that to me' and he replied with 'you have to for money', to which I said 'No you don't, you could have asked for help'".

She added: "I said 'is there anyone that can help you?', to which he replied 'no I don't have family like that'."

She then managed to walk away towards the dog walker, and said she didn't run sooner "because he was still in grabbing distance and I didn't want to trigger him and I didn't know if he had a knife on him".

The dog walker then checked how she was and rang the police.

The victim said her attacker "wasn't fazed about what he did" and believes "he would easily do this again".

She added: "Please get in touch if you think you have seen this guy or passed him at a shop or even anywhere that may have CCTV."
