A WOMAN who took to the skies to do a wing walk in memory of her RAF father says she will ‘remain on a high’ for a long time to come.

Barbara Henthorne, from Windlehurst, undertook a wing walk at the world famous AeroSuperBatics Wing Walking display team at their home base, RFC Rendcomb Airfield, in the heart of the Cotswolds on Wednesday, May 18.

This saw her strapped into a harness on the top wing of a 1940s Boeing Stearman biplane, ready for a series of flypasts, zoom climbs, dives and banking turns.

She took part in this event to raise funds for the Royal Air Forces Association, and to honour her father Tom Henthorne and his 99 Squadron and 356 Squadron colleagues who fought during the Second World War.

The 67-year-old said: “What an absolutely amazing day we all had on Wednesday at RAF Rendcomb.

“Thank you to the RAF Association for providing the opportunity for me to fulfil a long held ambition of mine to do a wing-walk in memory of my father while at the same time raising funds for your very worthy cause. I can hardly find the words to describe how magical the day was.

“The wing-walk itself was beyond amazing. I think I will remain "on a high" for a long time to come.

“I have already signed up to do an aerobatic wing-walk next year, which will include loops, rolls and stall-turns. I can’t wait.”
