A 25-YEAR-OLD has committed to multiple fundraising events in honour of his dad and those who cared for him in his final days.
Luke Grounds, from Blackbrook, has been a long-time supporter of Willowbrook Hospice after witnessing the end-of-life care they gave to his dad in 2009.
With his dad Andrew receiving round-the-clock care for around three weeks, Luke, who has 13 at the time, has never forgotten those who went the extra mile for his family.
In addition to the care Willowbrook staff gave to Andrew, they were also extremely supportive to the family during this difficult period.
As a tribute to his dad, Luke has been involved in numerous fundraising events over the years, including growing his hair out for children with cancer.
Focusing his efforts on those who cared for his dad, Luke has committed to a number of challenges for Willowbrook Hospice this year.
His project will run until November 7, which is the anniversary of his dad's passing.
Raising money for Willowbrook, the 25-year-old has run 50 miles throughout February, ran the St Helens 10k in March, and conquered Scafell Pike with his closest friends.
With other fundraisers in the pipeline such as a charity football and rugby match, Luke said he wants to do all that he can to "make a difference".
Luke, a site liaison officer, said: "After I lost my dad to cancer in 2009, I've tried to raise awareness of Willowbrook ever since.
"My dad would have been one of their longest-serving patients at the time and the support they gave to me and my family was out of this world.
"I've never forgotten what they did for me and my family so I just want to keep flying the flag for Willowbrook and what they do."
With Willowbrook's end-of-life services costing around £5 million per year, projects like Luke's are an extremely necessary source of income as their revenue streams were severely impacted during the pandemic.
Luke has raised around £1000 from his efforts so far, and you can donate to his fundraiser for Willowbrook here.
