A LIFE-SAVING piece of equipment has been fitted outside a St Helens pub this week, after the money was raised by the local community.

As part of 'Proper Pubs' national campaign, the Boars Head on Elton Head Road, Sutton, had a defibrillator installed outside the pub on Tuesday, May 17.

To support the campaign, pub regulars, staff, and the local community got involved in multiple fundraising events to raise money for the defibrillator.

After tragic incidents of people suffering a sudden cardiac arrest in St Helens and further afield, defibrillators have proved to be life-saving in the crucial minutes before paramedics arrive.

It has been installed outside of the pub so that anyone in the community can use the equipment at any time, with the device giving out instructions so that people know how to use it.

Alex O'Neill, manager of the Boars Head, said: "There has been a national push to install a defib outside each of the brewery's pubs.

"We are trying to maintain awareness of where defibrillators are and how they can save someone's life.

"I hope it doesn't have to be used, but it has been installed outside for the good of the community - so that anyone can use it and potentially save someone's life."
