THE COMMUNITY of St Helens and Prescot have come together to make sure an 89-year-old feels like a "million dollars" on her granddaughter's wedding day.

With her wedding approaching on May 7, Claire Cooper put out an appeal for help with her nan's hair and makeup to ensure she can make it to the special day.

Claire explained that her nan, Rachel Green, suffers from arthiritis and has deteriorated quite rapidly over the last two weeks.

Making sure that Rachel can make Claire's wedding day, a "massive amount" of offers came flying in from across the region to help the family.

A host of hairdressers and make-up artists even offered to do Rachel's make-up at her home free of charge.

"Overwhelmed" with the selfless response from the community, Claire settled on make-up artist Stacey Lorraine to take care of her nan's wedding day look.

Claire, 36, said: "I wanted to make my very own queen feel special as she's deteriorated massively in the last 2 weeks so we want to make the most of every second with her.

"She's 89, and a few weeks ago was shopping up Prescot 4 times a week so it's a massive shock to her [to have deteriorated].

Describing her nan as an "amazing, strong woman", Claire said that her nan has "never given up" after the heartbreak of losing her husband suddenly 12 years ago and her son in a car crash when he was just 19.

Wanting to repay her nan's strength and love, Stacey will now make sure that Rachel can witness Claire get married while looking "a million dollars".
