A ST HELENS schoolboy took centre stage on Britain’s Got Talent on Saturday.

Jamie Leahey, aged 13 and from St Helens, impressed with ventriloquism puppet act Chuck as the hit ITV show returned.

The talent show saw judges Cowell, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and David Walliams reunite as Ant & Dec returned for hosting duties.

And Jamie, who learned ventriloquism over lockdown, was among the first acts on the stage.

Asked by David Walliams where he was from Jamie answered proudly: “St Helens.”

He told the show: “My biggest dream is in Vegas, my name up in lights."

Jamie and Chuck then had the audience and judges in stitches with their jokes, before having them up on their feet with his sing song.

Walliams told him: “You have an incredible talent - not just ventriloquism but to entertain people.

“I though that was absolutely wonderful."

Alesha Dixon said: “I loved that - it was so slick - all while thinking I can’t believe you are 13!”

Amanda Holden added to the praise: “You absolutely smashed that.”

Jamie earned four yeses to progress.

There was also an appearance by Titan the Robot, who has made numerous appearances in St Helens town centre over the years.
