A MAN will celebrate his 100th birthday along with 100 guests at St Helens Town Hall in June.

Taking place on Wednesday, June 1, the celebration has been organised to tie in with the Queen's jubilee the following day.

Gerald Anders, who lives on Prescot Road, was born in St Helens in 1922 and served in the Royal Artillery during World War 2.

Serving Queen Elizabeth II during the battle with the Axis powers, Gerald, his family, and friends, want to use the occassion to celebrate both his life and the Queen's 70th anniversary of her accession to the throne.

The celebration plans to treat guests with afternoon tea and music that Gerald's generation used to dance along to.

As well as Gerald's family and friends, other veterans have been invited to the Town Hall celebration to share their medals, salutes, and stories with one another.

Describing Gerald, friends of the veteran say that he is "loved by everyone he comes in contact with, and is a legend throughout St Helens and beyond".
