A HOUSEBUILDER has announced the second phase of homes at a Prescot development.

Miller Homes has purchased houses for the next stage of its development, Sonnet Gate.

A full planning application has been approved for an additional 28 homes – alongside the 53 which are already in production.

The combined phases form part of a wider 700-unit residential scheme in the area, which includes a total of 81 homes to be built by Miller Homes.

Work on the initial phase is already well underway, with the Show Home expected to open this spring and the first occupations following shortly after.

Miller Homes says the Prescot development will bring a collection of three and four-bedroomed homes to the area, as well as affordable options.

It adds the contemporary house designs will be in keeping with the local area and provide an opportunity for those looking to get on, or take a step up, the property ladder.

The development has been named Sonnet Gate in reference to Prescot's Shakespearian ties.

During the 16th century, Prescot was home to one of only a handful of standing theatres outside London.

It is believed that Prescot's Playhouse would have served the gentry visiting the Earl of Derby at Knowsley Hall and several of Shakespeare's plays were performed there, with the possibility that the Bard himself may even have visited on a trip to the Earl.

Jonathan Steggles, land director for Miller Homes North West said, “We’re looking forward to bringing new homes to the lively and aspirational area of Prescot. We will be working with the community every step of the way.”

The homebuilder has already teamed up with Prescot primary school St Mary’s and St Paul’s CE to run a poetry competition, with the winner’s piece being incorporated into show home design.
