John Pearson, who has died suddenly aged 75, fulfilled a number of roles at the club to such an extennt he was named 'Clubman of the Year' at Rainhill's 2022 awards night.

A spokesperson for the club said: "Everyone at Rainhill Cricket Club is saddened to hear that John Pearson has passed away suddenly.

"His son, Mark, found him in his house yesterday evening following the club raising concerns about John not responding to telephone calls and e-mails.

"It is hard to put into words John’s popularity and the massive impact he has made to the Club and its members. He was a driving force with the development of the juniors in our club and we will have many sad juniors and parents.

"John was our treasurer, coach, All Stars activator, umpire, Junior team manager and always willing to volunteer to be involved in anything happening.

"One of his proudest moments was at the October 21 Presentation event when he was honoured with the Clubman of the Year award.

"John will greatly missed and we would like to express our sincere condolences to all his family at this very sad time."

The club has said they would like to publish a number of tributes to John over the coming days. If you would like to share your thoughts and memories of John, please forward them to rainhillcricket@gmail.com
