TRIBUTES have been paid to a stalwart of local cricket described as a "legend" by his teammates at Rainhill CC.
John Pearson, who has died suddenly aged 75, fulfilled a number of roles at the club to such an extennt he was named 'Clubman of the Year' at Rainhill's 2022 awards night.
A spokesperson for the club said: "Everyone at Rainhill Cricket Club is saddened to hear that John Pearson has passed away suddenly.
"His son, Mark, found him in his house yesterday evening following the club raising concerns about John not responding to telephone calls and e-mails.
"It is hard to put into words John’s popularity and the massive impact he has made to the Club and its members. He was a driving force with the development of the juniors in our club and we will have many sad juniors and parents.
"John was our treasurer, coach, All Stars activator, umpire, Junior team manager and always willing to volunteer to be involved in anything happening.
"One of his proudest moments was at the October 21 Presentation event when he was honoured with the Clubman of the Year award.
"John will greatly missed and we would like to express our sincere condolences to all his family at this very sad time."
Desperately sad news. John was universally liked by everyone in our league , did every job going at Rainhill, and worked particularly tirelessly with the youngsters. Condolences to John's family and all at Rainhill. https://t.co/w0KXLK7iLw
