HOTEL chain Travelodge has identified St Helens as an area in which it is seeking to open a new hotel.

The budget hotel chain has unveiled a list of ‘New Travelodge Development Opportunities’.

This includes a map of potential locations where it could create new hotels.

On the Travelodge website, UK development director Tony O'Brien said:

“We are currently seeking development opportunities that could incorporate a new Travelodge hotel, either on its own or as part of a mixed-use scheme, and will consider new developments and conversions of existing buildings and hotels operated by other brands.

“In 2021, we opened 17 new hotels, in locations including Bristol, Kendal, Leicester, London, Mansfield, Poole, Rochdale, Sandwich, St Albans and Witney and are looking to open a similar number each year.”

Among the locations cited on the map is St Helens, although an exact address has yet to be confirmed.

Currently, the chain has one hotel in the borough on Piele Road, Haydock.

Travelodge did not comment on any specific location in St Helens but confirmed that the town is a target area.
