TWO men from Newton charged after a man was stabbed in the back are set to stand trial after denying the charges put before them.
Police were called to Longshaw Street in Bewsey, Warrington shortly after midnight on Monday, December 20, after paramedics discovered the 31-year-old injured victim lying injured in the street.
He was rushed to Aintree Hospital after suffering serious injuries during the incident and is understood to have subsequently undergone surgery.
An area between Saville Avenue and the junction of Longshaw Street and Folly Lane was cordoned off by officers following the incident.
Searches also took place at a nearby house on Longshaw Street.
Last month, Cheshire Police confirmed that 20-year-old Kyle Ashton and 23-year-old Lee Ashton had been charged with wounding with intent and making threats with a bladed article in connection with the attack.
The pair, both of Elston Avenue in Newton-le-Willows, appeared before Warrington Magistrates' Court on Friday, January 7, in order to face these charges.
They were remanded into custody ahead of a further appearance before Liverpool Crown Court on Friday last week, where they both entered not guilty pleas to each charge.
The duo are due back before the court later this year, with a trial date fixed for June.
After charging the pair last month, a Cheshire Police spokesman said: “Two men have been charged following a serious assault in Warrington.
“Officers were called at around 12.05am on December 20 to Longshaw Street following reports of a man with stab wounds.
“The 31-year-old local man was taken to Aintree Hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.
“Kyle Ashton, 20, and Lee Ashton, 23 – both of Elston Avenue, Newton Le Willows – were arrested and subsequently charged with section 18 wounding with intent and threatening a person with a blade.
“They appeared at Warrington Magistrates' Court on January 7 and were remanded into custody to appear at Liverpool Crown Court on February 4.”
