AFTER almost two years of disruption, charity fundraising by Northwich Rotary Club is hoping to swim its way back to normality.

Traditionally each year in March, the club organises a charity Swimathon at the Memorial Court Pool, and after a three year absence, this year’s event will be the 20th edition.

Suitable for swimmers of all ages and abilities, the Swimathon will once again be sponsored by Ubuntu Wealth Management, whose support ensures all the money raised goes to charitable causes.

Rupert Adams, President of Northwich Rotary Club, said: "Our last Swimathon in 2019 raised over £10,000 for local charities and good causes but in addition our experience is that those who take part really enjoy it and we have many teams who come back each year.

"Although it is not a race and teams are not expected to compete against each other we will again be inviting participants to introduce an element of challenge between teams for those who are interested.

"Local businesses, organisations and individuals are invited to put in teams of around six swimmers who ask friends, relations and work colleagues to sponsor them.

"This year we aim to have 48 teams taking part: that’s nearly 300 individuals.

"However, you don’t have to be part of a team to support the event, and we invite donations."

Garnet Ronander, of Ubuntu Wealth Management, said: "We are delighted to team up with the Rotary Club of Northwich once again to sponsor the 2022 Swimathon.

Our last Swimathon was a fantastic event for both those taking part and for the charities that received a generous amount of funding.

"This year we are hoping for a bigger and better event, where we’ll see more people joining the Swimathon fun on March 26 and 27 and, ultimately, more money raised for the chosen charities."

Each team has a 55-minute slot but only one member of each team swims at once, so there is no need for any one individual to swim for the whole duration.

The Rotary Club has raised over £150,000 for local causes and the named charities for 2022 are Deafness Support Network (Northwich) and Riding for the Disabled (Sandy Lane Group).

Teams are invited to express their interest in entering the event via northwichswimathon.org.uk and follow the links to the JustGiving page.
