UK households have been hit with rising gas and energy bills as wholesale prices have risen.

Energy regulator, Ofgem who reviews the maximum price that suppliers in the UK can charge customers, will be announcing the new energy price cap next month.

The cap is reviewed every six months and is expected to rise this time because global wholesale prices have gone up.

The next review is due at the beginning of February, and the new cap will come into effect in April.

We reached out to Globe readers to find out their thoughts on the new energy price cap announcement.

Kym Renshall said: “I’m already in energy debt and struggling to pay bills and debt. I have a family of seven and I can’t work at the moment due to caring responsibilities. I’m living in fear of being cut off.”

Keith Beswick commented: “Anybody who isn’t worried obviously has too much money. This is going to be a disaster for pensioners and people on low wages.

“They simply can’t afford this sort of increase in what is a vital commodity and the Government need to do something about it. But of course, they are too busy having drunken parties.”

Gill Saunders posted: “I'm only on minimum wage and I turn 66 in less than three weeks and longing to retire, especially after the government adding another six years on!

“It's so worrying after looking forward to retirement for so long.”

Karen Gerrard added: “I am extremely worried. I'm disabled and home all day as I can no longer work so our bills are huge already for a family of five.”

Sarah Mckay said: “It’s the elderly I worry about. I was told about a work man who went to carry out repairs on a property and the lady who lived there was wearing her coat and gloves inside.”

Rachael Acton commented: “100% yes I am worried. Mine has risen by 50% already. It’s the first time I’ve not been able to afford my bill and it’s going up again in April apparently, tried cutting back as much as I can but it is what it is.”

Vicky Aspey added: “Yes I am worried. More so for my parents and other pensioners. It’s vile.”
