MOTORISTS planning on using the M6 are being warned of severe delays this morning, Friday.
This comes after a crash on the northbound carriageway, with traffic stretching back to junction 22 for Winwick and Newton-le-Willows.
The accident, involving a car and a van, occurred between junction 26 for the M58 at Orrell Interchange and junction 27 for Standish.
The highway has since been closed to allow emergency barrier repair work to take place.
According to North West Motorway Police, the driver was taken to hospital with minor injuries after being extracted from the car by firefighters.
It is expected that the motorway will remain closed heading northbound at junction 26, and from the M58 at junction six, for repairs and resurfacing for most of the day.
